Field Notes
On gardening, early retirement, and taking root in a Greensboro bungalow.
A Box of Jars
One advantage of being close to my parents, who live in a house where so many vegetables were pickled and/or canned, is access to so many old jars.
Too Mulch?
Our small yard project to replace ivy ground cover with mulch has escalated into a full front yard transformation.
Out with the Ivy
We spent today tackling the front yard's persistent English ivy. We decided to give up on coexistence. Chalk up another win for good enough gardening.
Another Garden Surprise
Another garden surprise reveals itself, and it’s a balloon flower!
Sumoing on Elm
Sumo wrestling at Stroll on Elm, a pleasant surprise on a hot Greensboro (first) Saturday.
Unearthing the Wall
Today we unearthed more of what is probably the original low garden wall.
Peeling Back More than Ivy
I started what seemed like a simple project on the north side of the yard, but I didn't expect a bent trowel, a patch of poison ivy, or the discovery of the protected vine zone.
Flittin’ and Sittin’
With catching up on the porch and watching the hummingbirds, staying in place is starting to feel pretty good.
Waiting for Wren
I wanted to capture a photo of my favorite bird buddy this afternoon. He had other plans.
