Another Garden Surprise

Our first balloon flower.

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s been fun watching new things pop up in the garden. The walkway to our front porch is a bed of river rocks with large pavers. On each side, there is a bed of plants. Mostly it’s small azaleas, but there is also a salvia that has been throwing up some beautiful purple spikes. Planted so closely behind it that I didn’t even realize it was a separate plant until last week is a balloon flower! Before the blossoms open on this purple beauty, the stalks really do look like green sticks with matching balloons on the end. I’d never heard of a balloon flower before, so I was delighted. The adventure continues!
