I Spy with My Little Eye
Something that starts with “T.”
It finally might be happening. We have the beginnings of a tomato (or two) in backyard raised bed no. 1. We’ve been waiting for this since April. We bought these starts in April. We didn’t move in until May, and so we had them as starts, then in slightly larger pots, and then in the ground. And now it looks like we might have backyard tomatoes in our near-ish future. My parents have been sharing theirs with us for the past few weeks; it’ll be great to be able to repay the favor.
Some other good news from this morning’s garden walk. In backyard raised bed no. 2, arugula, lettuce, spinach, and broccoli are all beginning to sprout. In the front raised bed, the calendula looks like it might be peaking out as well.
As I’ve mentioned before, the garden is a lesson in patience for me. Garden’s gonna do how garden’s gonna do. Not two weeks ago, we talked about just pulling the tomato and pepper plants and putting in something else. But we didn’t. There was a hint of blooms. The stalks looked healthy. We trimmed off dead leaves and stuck it out, and we might be rewarded with a tomato. Or two.
