Flashback to Spain

A beautiful afternoon stroll in spring in Madrid.

This weekend James showed me this selfie from our time in Madrid this March. We stayed near the Plaza de España on a wonderful street with fantastic neighborhood restaurants. One of our favorite things to do was to walk over to Parque de la Montaña, a beautiful park with incredible views of the city. I love this time in the spring when the trees are just starting to bloom. The pale pinks and purples are a striking juxtaposition against the bare grayish brown branches and deep evergreens. At the base of this park, there is a garden with canopied walkways and hedges and fountains. It was gray then. I wonder what it looks like now.

A friend reminded me recently of my plan to write about our travels. I had grand ideas about snapping photos and posting dispatches from hotels and AirBnBs, but I ended up just being too tired. And if I’m honest, I was really just enjoying where I was. I’d rather be in Bilbao than writing about it, you know. Once we got back to North Carolina, we immediately started looking for a place to live. I haven’t even sorted through our photos or the pieces of ephemera I collected (and made James carry) along the way. As I do that, perhaps I’ll write about it here from time to time, sharing more about that part of our adventure.
