New Craft Alert

Fresh sprigs of green rosemary, mint, and a fern frond from a Greensboro garden arranged on a small, open black inked resting on top of a hand-drawn pencil floor plan on a spiral notebook sheet, placed on a dark wooden table.

Taking ink pressings of leaves.

I’ve been a little under the weather for a couple of days, which has meant not much to post about from the bungalow. Well, we did buy a lawn mower yesterday; we were holding out hope that we wouldn’t have to mow our lawn. The recent rains, though, have really perked up our backyard. I’m happy for what that means for our trees and annuals, but it doesn’t mean there’s grass to mow. So yesterday we bought a lawnmower, and I mowed the backyard. Of the many things I wouldn’t want to be photographed doing, mowing has to be near the top of the list.

Today, I’m getting back to my routine. We took a walk in the cemetery this morning, and I mowed the small strip of grass in the front yard while James put down flooring in the shed. After some errands and picking up around the house, I tried a new craft, taking ink pressings of plants from the garden. It was fun and perhaps a bit meditative. The results were fine, but I think the ink pad method uses a little too much ink. I think I’ll get a roller and try that. It’s funny how gardening has taken over all of my pastimes.
